ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The Open Studio session fee provides access to the studio facility, equipment and basic clay tools; however, we encourage individuals to bring their own clay tool kit. Clay can be purchased from NHCP. We carry a Raku, Porcelain and Stoneware clay body, which is fired in an electric kiln to cone 6. A small fee is included in the price of the clay which covers the bisque firing. No outside clay is permitted in the studio unless prior arrangements have been made. Why? Because the clay provided has been tested to fit our studio glazes and produces dependable outcomes which leads to happy clay makers.

COSTS:

  • Open Studio session: $5 per hour ($30 for a full 6 hr day)

  • 15 lbs clay and first firing (up to 2 cubic ft of space): $10

  • Cone 6 glazes and second firing (up to 2 cubic ft of space): $5 ($3 if providing your own glaze*)

  • Cone 6 test firing: $3 (you can fit numerous test tiles in the small test kiln)

PAYMENT FOR CLAY AND FIRINGS WILL BE TAKEN AT THE STUDIO AFTER A BRIEF INTRODUCTION TO THE FACILITIES. WE ACCEPT CASH, CHECK OR DEBIT/CREDIT.

*If you bring your own glazes, you must provide MSDS documentation for each glaze. Glazes must be lead free and have appropriate labels. Commercial glazes allow for a wider range of glaze diversity and experimentation and are encouraged, but should still be tested with our clay bodies (see test firing cost). Since this is a communal kiln, we do not allow pre-mixed, handmade glazes or access to our glaze chemical pantry. Results need to be stable and have as little influence on others’ work as possible.

NHCP WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY UNCLAIMED POTTERY, CLAY, TOOLS OR SUPPLIES LEFT BEHIND 3 WEEKS AFTER THE LAST ATTENDED OPEN STUDIO DATE.

If you have any additional questions, please contact Mitzi Davis, Program Manager, at nhclayproject@gmail.com.

Please allow for firing and glazing of the work; pieces will be ready and available 3-4 weeks after your class date. We will store the pieces for a maximum of 3 months after the workshop unless other arrangements have been made.
