pass the salt, please
Come join us in a multi-day workshop taught by Lenny Dowhie, our NHCP Director, as he focuses on a 14th century glazing technique known as "salt firing.” Students will experience each part of the ceramic process, from making to glazing and firing. You will be guided on construction techniques to create your own ceramic works the first weekend. The following weekends are dedicated to enhancing your artwork through the use of salt by preparing and firing your projects to a very hot 2381°F!
Students will help to “salt” the kiln while at this temperature. The result is an explosive reaction between the salt and heat where it melts into a glaze on the ceramic surfaces, producing incredibly unique results. We recommend students have some skill and experience in clay.
REGISTRATION FEE: $200.00 PER PERSON
EACH CLASS HAS LIMITED SPACE. PREREGISTRATION IS REQUIRED.
