Duration: October-november 2019
Krestine Harboe is one of the short-term resident artists from Denmark. While in New Harmony, she made new abstract sculptures by taking plaster molds of the nature tracks surrounding the area and arranging them together with found objects from nature. Krestine also explored new ceramics techniques and experimented with different clays and firings. She enjoyed working at the New Harmony Clay Project and fully surrendering herself to the clay work!

ARTIST STATEMENT
In my work, I use different ceramic materials in combination with everyday items and organic matter to create sculptural objects. By employing a variety of ceramic techniques, from coiling and throwing, to working with plaster molds, free-form, and dipping, I interpret and examine nature’s forms. In doing so, I engage in an ongoing dialogue with both clay and found objects, as I work layer upon layer, mixing the different ceramic techniques. I find that the traces of the nature in my sculptures give them a particular energy and a feeling of sacrifice. There is a freshness and spontaneity to the work and traces of the process are often visible in the final pieces. Elements of storytelling and Nordic mythology characterize many of the individual works.
